Our staff of caring and knowledgeable health care professionals takes pride in their work caring for their residents and
patients. The staff and the individuals residing at the Brighten centers share a mutual respect for one another, responding
to and caring for each other on a personal level. Talk to any of our residents and you’ll find they feel like part of a family
and are pleased with the quality of care they receive. Satisfaction surveys are our way of proving our successes, but also how
we gain knowledge of areas we may need to improve. Some of our current and former patients/ residents:
“Hello! My name is Mary J. R. and my husband Anthony is a resident at
Brighten at Medford, 300 Winthrop St. Medford, MA.
It was a hard decision for me to make because he's my husband of 62 years and the father of my children. I did it for his sake and because of his illness, he needed the professional help I couldn't give him. Besides that, he's been totally blind for 16 years. I did what I could, but I am 85 years old and I was limited in helping him.
I recommend Brighten at Medford not only with my mouth, but with my heart. What a special place for anyone who needs help. Everyone from the administrator, doctors, nurses, therapists and aides are kind and caring to the patients. My husband is happy and pleased with the care. He calls it his "home" because he knows I couldn't help him as they do.
They keep the building and the rooms clean and tidy, the floors shine like mirrors. All in all, it's a great place for one who needs rehabilitation or long-term care.
Thank you very much for listening to me.

“R.B. arrived at our door in unable to speak, eat or walk. She had just spent 3 months in the ICU after sustaining a severe brain injury. She required total assistance from the nursing and rehab staff to transfer into a wheelchair, comb her hair, or even wash her face. Doctor’s had little hope for any type of recovery and her fate seemed solidified.
After several weeks from her admission, the staff noticed her beginning to attempt to speak. Therapy was notified and established an intensive program for physical, occupational, and speech therapy services 6 days a week. In addition, the entire facility quickly became inspired by her improvement and provided encouragement and hope even on her most frustrating days.
Although the process was slow at first, R.B. gradually became more independent with her dressing, bathroom, and grooming care. She became extremely determined to work as much as she could with therapy. Eventually Speech therapy was able to retrain her to swallow, with no longer requiring the feeding tube; Physical therapy was able to strengthen her to the point of walking again with only requiring a walker; and Occupational therapy helped her to regain her independence for caring for herself.
She has since returned home with her family to lead a fulfilling and independent life; but she holds a very special place in all of our hearts. Her hope and determination will continue to inspire us for years.”
“We were very fortunate that Lankenou transferred my my mother to a fine care facility near our
home and to which her physician, who is highly regarded by our family, is the medical director.
I am impressed by the cheerful and caring manner of the nurses and the nursing assistants in B-Wing, as well as by the aides who
are involved in the various activity events, therapy, etc. I wish I could commend each of them by name, but unfortunately, I've
come to know only a few by their first names. Nonetheless, it is reassuring to me that my mothers is receiving wonderful care.
I also appreciate being invited to attend the Resident Care Conference. Brighten's location and ample parking is very convenient
for me.”
