Bryn Mawr

November, 2007 - John DiBella the local radio station WMGK provided lunch to the employees at Bryn Mawr. Our therapy department won the At Work Listeners Network weekly contest. John DiBella brought lunch from PaPa John's Pizza. He posed for pictures and signed photographs. Everyone had a wonderful time.

November, 2007 - The activities department went around to all the residents to see who are veterans. The pictures and information of our veterans were displayed on a trifold backboard.  Dietary and activities served  cake and refreshments to our residents and any of their family members that are visiting. Two of our residents that play the guitar and piano  played some patriotic music at this time. Our social worker, Mary announced and honored our residents and had moment of silence.

Oh and Staff Sgt. Allison of the Ridley Park, PA Recruiting Sub-Station conducted the ceremony in the front of the facility which was held in celebration of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday. Ambler

“BRIGHTEN STARS” SHINE AT CITIZEN BANK PARK.

Ten residents of Brighten @ Ambler and six residents from Brighten @ Broomall nursing facility’s made a memorable pilgrimage to Citizen Bank Park on Sunday September 24, 2006. The game itself was brewing with excitement exhibiting a playoff atmosphere. The cheers of young fans and fans young at heart propelled the Phillies to a one-sided victory. The Phillies organization did an outstanding job accommodating our residents. They enjoyed hotdogs, soda, peanuts and an occasional ‘adult beverage’. Many thanks to the Brighten staff members who worked on their day off so the residents could attend the game.

The game of baseball is like a flame that glows in the heart of the young and old. Some of our residents who attended the game are in their eighties. In their youth they cheered for their hero’s like Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio. The players have changed and the price of a hotdog and soda is $7.00 but the youthful exuberance of years past returns when the umpire shouts, “play ball”! Attending the game was a wonderfully fulfilling experience for our residents and our staff. The greatest American pastime promises memory laden thoughts of years long past. Ruth and DiMaggio may be gone but the basic human desire to be part of something special perpetually burns within our residents. The ballpark itself is a potpourri of sensory delights. The eyes spy the green, perfectly manicured field as it brims with life. The nose struggles to sort through the dizzying array of palatable treats. The ears trained for the sharp crack as lumber meets rawhide. As we share these experiences with our residents we come to realize why we chose healthcare as a career. Improving the lives of our residents improves our lives. Baseball is much like life. Sometimes we win. Sometimes we lose. Sometimes it rains and we can’t play. Sometimes we are at the top of our game while other times we make an error. We can be sure of one thing. Our residents may have been spectators at a baseball game but in the game of life they are truely ‘ALL STARS’.

Medford

Brighten at Medford - On Mother’s Day, May 13th., Brighten @ Medford hosted a Tea Party for all the female residents and family members.  The women received corsages while being served tea and cookies.

For Nursing Home Week, the residents and staff enjoyed an ice-cream social.  We also hosted a contest with some of the staff’s baby pictures and the winner received a gift basket.  Two entertainers came in this week for added enjoyment.  Also, a staff breakfast was given one morning to personally thank them for their hard work and dedication.  It ended with a special Brighten cook-out, which was enjoyed by all.

On May 25th., Brighten brought a luncheon over to the American Legion as an early Memorial Day thank-you.  The men and women who attended appreciated being remembered and couldn’t thank us enough.

June 7th, we hosted an “Evening of Enlightenment” with  Intuitive consultant Jocelyn.  Area case managers/discharge planners were invited and were able to spend approximately one half hour with her.  They were very impressed with what they heard and each left with an audio-tape of their reading.  We feel it was quite successful as the ones who were not having their readings done got to tour the facility.  It was talked about with great enthusiasm for weeks.

Brighten at Medford is proud to be a part of this special proclamation supported by Mayor Michael McGlynn announcing the 13th day of October, 2006 as "Public Safety Personnel Day" in the City of Medford.

We would like to send a special thank you to several of our community members who attended our in-house appreciation breakfast for Police Officers, Firefighters, and Emergency Medical Personnel located here at Brighten at Medford. To show his added support, Mayor Michael McGlynn came out to dedicate a special proclamation to those that continually keep our community safe whereas Medford's Firefighters, Police Officers, and Emergency Medical Services personnel provide community-based public service which is vital to elderly residents in need, and in combination work with physicians, nurses, social workers, pyschologists, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, educators, administrators and others to addess the issues surrounding the provision of optimal elderly care and consistently assist in providing Medford's elderly residents with special health care needs and timely, appropriate care.

To show our appreciation furthermore, everyone who participated was entered into a drawing for a chance to attend the Patriots vs. Lions game, December 3, 2006. Chosen by the Mayor, we would like to congratulate Paul Spencer - Firefighter of Medford.
